Of all the labor unions popping up in the news, the one that stands to raise eyebrows in Olympia could be organized by the folks who keep the Legislature running.
We’re talking about Legislative staff—aides, communications specialists, etc.—who have been agitating the last several years for collective bargaining rights in aid of better pay, benefits, and working conditions. A sort-of walkout in 2022 forced lawmakers’ hands and spurred a bill to open the door to the idea.1
