Joe Kent’s defeat of incumbent Jaime Herrera Beutler in the Republican half of the 3rd Congressional District primary reminded me of a barroom1 parable I dreamed up to explain the 2016 presidential election to my freaked-out Democratic friends, who were all asking variations of this question: “How could anyone vote for Donald Trump?”
