Editor’s Note: The Sunday Observer is The Monday Observer this week because the Woman Who Lets Me Live With Her, our son, and my father spent way more time than planned at a certain 18-inning baseball game. The Mariners’ demoralizing descent into perennial mediocrity and gratifying return to relevance match my tenure in Washington; I spent most of my first summer in Olympia riveted by the 2001 Ms. My son, who turned 2 that season and 23 this year, had never consciously seen his team1 go to the playoffs. While the final score was a bummer, the game was full of rich pleasures, including watching Ms pitchers humble the arrogant Jose Altuve, the sharpest thorn in Seattle's side in recent years, holding him hitless in eight at-bats. In these polarized times, players in Washington politics mostly back one party or the other. And even for those few who play both sides of the aisle, what the Realtors are doing in Snohomish County’s 44th District is unusual.
They’re supporting the Republican candidate in one of the district’s two state House seats, and the Democratic incumbent in the other seat. Here’s the mailer:
