Friday brought a stunner from Gov. Bob Ferguson’s office. The new administration’s legislative director, Joyce Bruce, abruptly resigned in the middle of the Legislature’s session. Jeanie Lindsay over at KUOW had the spot news.1
We’ll get back to why that’s a big deal in a bit. But first, some context. We know some folks who have held that job, both in prior administrations in Washington and elsewhere. It is profoundly challenging: a firehose of demanding people and near-intractable problems that will consume your life. It’s also a career-defining opportunity. You only quit that job after a couple of months if you’re deeply miserable and/or you’ve decided your situation is untenable.
