The governor's race gets boring in a hurry

Just hours after we posted Friday’s piece about an early poll about a hypothetical primary in the 2024 race for governor, King County Executive Dow Constantine told his supporters he wouldn’t be in that race. Later that day, Jim Brunner at The Seattle Times broke the news that Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier, the only Republican tested in that poll, would likewise take a pass.

That’s a lot of action for a race that technically doesn’t start until next June and might not start at all in the unlikely event that Gov. Jay Inslee seeks an unprecedented 4th term. And if you’re a fan of political campaigns that feature robust debates between qualified candidates with the stature to win, it’s kind of a bummer.
