The main opposition to a landmark farm worker collective bargaining bill, SB 6045, steadily making its way through the legislature unsurprisingly comes from farmers, who are worried it could cause increased costs while they struggle to afford tariffs, past wage increases, and rising costs for equipment. But for unionization to have a big financial impact on farms, those farm workers would have to actually unionize, and increasing use of the H-2A program and the small amount of farm union activity in Washington could make that difficult.
