Election Day 2024
Some GOTV efforts were upbeat, some were funny, a few were ugly. They were all expensive. Plus, an election day sale on The Observer.
Happy Election Day, everyone. If your ballot is still on the kitchen counter, mutely guilting you about your civic duty, there’s still time. But you’d best take it to a drop box instead of relying on the rickety-ass vehicles and dubious organizational structure of the United States Postal Service.
Counties will dump initial vote counts sometime after the “polls” close at 8 p.m. Unlike most other states, we can expect the Election Night results to be maddeningly inconclusive on any close race. So don’t hold your breath about a definitive outcome on some of the slate of conservative ballot measures or the handful of competitive races for seats in the Legislature. We may even see an uncertain result in the races for statewide offices.
While you’re waiting for CNN’s John King—or the designated national TV nerd of your choice—to bust out the magic map wall, we’re going to run through some late spending aimed at getting out the vote in races that might be close.
But first, you’re about to run into the paywall if you aren’t one of The Observer’s paid subscribers (Thanks for the support, all ya’ll.). In the days and weeks ahead, we plan deep dives on the winners, the losers, the overspenders, and why you should care. To make it easier on you and your wallet to access all that Observer goodness, we’re offering an Election Day special which will end in a week (hopefully around the time we know all the results). Sign up for a subscription to The Observer today and save 10% on a monthly or annual subscription. Pro Tip: If you go annual, you’re getting TWO discounts.
