The campaign against repealing Washington’s cap-and-trade system for major emitters of carbon pollution launched its first ad this week. It’s the leading edge of an onslaught of messaging against Initiative 2117, which would repeal the Climate Commitment Act that established the cap-and-trade system, that voters can expect in the weeks between now and Election Day. 

As we noted in Monday’s edition, No On 2177 and the separate Green Jobs PAC collectively have about $15 million to spend on the campaign against the CCA repeal. So you can expect a great deal of this kind of thing:

The ad casts the measure as an attack on environmental protection that would put air and water quality, human health, and the economy at risk. Nowhere does the spot directly mention money, and that’s key because at the bottom this campaign is all about money.
