The lion’s share of the tax revenue in Washington goes to school districts to pay for K-12 education, so it was intriguing to have a veto request on a tax increase sent by a bunch of school superintendents to Gov. Bob Ferguson land in our inbox over the weekend.
Sixteen signatory superintendents, mostly from Pierce County, expressed alarm at the part of Senate Bill 5814 that extends the retail sales tax to cover temporary staffing services and urged Ferguson to dump it. That’s because they collectively spend around $50 million per year on temps who provide various special education services to their students.
